You don't need to configure EVERYTHING using the software. This allows me to have Select Target Ahead bound to my thumb switch on my stick while I'm flying around, but if I am in a menu or panel that same thumb switch navigates through the UI. I also have Select Target Ahead in the Ship Menu set to key W. This means you can configure multiple functions to one key press.įor example: In the General Menu I have UI Up (user interface up) set to key W. Any bindings set to the General menu can also be bound to controls in the other menus and visa-versa without causing interference.
Odyssey made control bindings easier by separating each control Menu. An example of a macro would be with a single button press on my throttle side I can request landing without needing to open the nav menu, move over to the contacts tab, and select the request landing option. You can also program macros that do multiple functions with only one keypress. The game only recognizes a single button press of a key, so to utilize toggle switches properly you need software to tell the game what to do. It also allows you to program switches and key presses that the game may not recognize. Using software allows you to program more functions to less keys. Why do I want to use software? Why can't I just set controls in the game? This guide is as generalized as I can make it since every software solution is a little different. A Google search should be able to tell you what/if software is compatible with your controller. There are other key binding software options out there, TARGET is Thrustmaster specific and has worked for me so far. I'm currently using a Thrustmaster Warthog with the T.A.R.G.E.T.
